Vlasenica - Sušica

Private House

After more than twenty years, in April 2021, employees of the NGO Snaga Žene from Tuzla accompanied witness F. Together they visited the place where F was raped in 1992. ‘I grew up with two brothers and one sister in a family house in Vlasenica. In May 1992, I fled my village…with my mother, my younger brother and my sister. During the escape we were captured and taken to the Sušica camp, where we spent ten days. After leaving the Sušica camp, went to Cerska, where we were housed housed on the school grounds and spend ten days there. On the tenth day of my stay in Cerska, I went to my house with the army of Bosnia and Herzegovina to pick up groceries

for the family and to visit my father who was staying at the house. Upon arrival I was recaptured and my father was killed on my doorstep. After the capture, I was again taken to the Sušica camp, where I stayed for twenty-one days. During my stay in the Sušica camp in June 1992, I was raped twice, physically and mentally abused, and starved by soldiers. I witnessed physical abuse of other prisoners. After twenty-one days in Sušica I was taken to Pšelemiš – the demarcation line –from where I went to Kladanj in the Bosnian Federation. In Kladanj I stayed twenty days in the kindergarten school, then in Živinice in a school where I stayed fifteen days. Then I went to Tuzla to private accommodation. In the time between my second capture in Sušica and my arrival in Tuzla, I did not know what happened to my mother, brother and sister. In 1995 I found them again and lived with them in a rented house in Tuzla’s Piskavica district.’
